Thesis is a conversation card game for 2–6 players. With friends, it’s a way to hear something new from people you know well.
The setting
A kitchen table after dinner. Three to five friends, a deck in the middle, the die beside it. Phones on the side.
How a session looks
Whoever suggested the game goes first. She draws card 21 and chooses the idea side: Friendship. She rolls, looks at the word from that side, and tells a story nobody at the table has heard. Someone asks: Who else was there?
The die goes to the left. The next player draws card 47 and turns it to the thing side: Key. He rolls and keeps his answer to two sentences. That counts.
You play for as long as it feels good. In the last round, each player names one thing they discovered about someone at the table.
What to watch for
- Passing. Agree how passing works before the first card. Friends know each other’s stories, and some words land close to home. Every card also has a second side.
- Pace. “A short answer is a full answer.” A quick turn keeps the table moving. Anyone can ask for more.
- Old stories. The die gives a familiar word a direction. One of the example questions on the rule card is Has it always meant that to you?
- What’s said stays. The rule card says: “What is said at the table stays at the table.”
