Duty splits along family lines. On a Mumsnet thread about caring for a parent, the majority said that care is earned by how the parent behaved. Posters who identified as Asian or non-British called that cold. In the Philippines, a 2025 study describes duty to family as a lifelong debt, felt as pride and burden.
