Why Jealousy is in the deck
Jealousy came from the first word list for the game.
The reason it stayed is range. The same word works between siblings, between friends and between partners. A story about a younger brother and a story about a partner can both start from this card, and they won’t sound alike.
Read from different places
Jealousy can be a hard word to bring up first. Raising it can feel like an accusation. A card does the raising for you. It’s in the deck, it came up in the draw, and now it’s on the table.
If you want to talk about jealousy with your partner, that’s the use of the card. Neither of you had to pick the topic. The die decides the angle, and each of you answers from your own side.
It also sits in the Relationships cluster with Trust, Loyalty and Friendship. Played in one evening, those cards can answer each other.
The other side: Kitchen table
The other side is Kitchen table. It was chosen as the place where family moments happen. In an essay on ordinary objects, a writer remembers the kitchen table of a home left behind after displacement. The card can bring family moments and the room they happened in.
How to play this card
Draw it. Choose a side: Jealousy or Kitchen table. Roll the die. Look at the word from that side. Say as much or as little as feels right.
Two lines from the rule card matter here. “A short answer is a full answer. You can always ask for more.” And: “What is said at the table stays at the table.”
