Why Home is in the deck
Home is card 49, and it’s a safe first card. It’s easy to answer and hard to answer the same way twice.
On a Mumsnet thread, adults argued about what “home” means once you have your own house. Some meant where they live now. Some meant their parents’ house. Others meant their hometown. One poster said: “My parents house is my home too, I feel at home there.”
Read from different places
There’s a fourth reading: home as a person. A Tumblr post quoting Robin Hobb puts it as “home is people, not a place”.
For people who moved countries, home often lives in small things. Writers describe the whistle of a pressure cooker, rusted keys to a house left behind, and a tea set that a refugee in Mali chose as her most important possession.
So if you’re asking what home means to you, the answer may be a building, a smell or someone’s voice. Home sits in the Relationships cluster with Family, Love and Friendship.
The other side: Spoon
The other side is Spoon. It replaced Flower. Spoon was chosen for feeding and being fed, and for the Welsh lovespoon, a carved spoon given as a promise of love. It’s recognizable everywhere.
How to play this card
Draw it. Choose a side: Home or Spoon. Roll the die. Look at the word from that side.
Play for as long as it feels good.
